Overijssel is one of twelve regions in the Netherlands. The region includes the province of the same name and has about 1.2 million inhabitants.
The provincial capital is Zwolle while the largest city is Enschede. Other major cities are Almelo, Deventer, Hengelo, Kampen and Oldenzaal.
Adjacent regions are Gelderland in the south, Flevoland in the west, Friesland in the northwest, Drenthe in the north and Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen (in Germany) in the east.
