Katajanokka Casino
Katajanokka Casino is a restaurant that opened in 1913 at Laivastokatu 1, Katajanokka, Helsinki. The building, designed by A. Nyberg, served as the officers' casino for the Russians until January 1918, when it was taken over by the Red Guards. The Germans, who landed in Helsinki in April of that year, adopted it until December 1918.
In 1919, the Finnish officers took over the casino and since then, the national defense organizations have used the building's premises for their own events. Katajanokka Casino is run by the Katajanokka Officer´s Club.
After World War II, the casino was renovated. The Marski (Marshal's) and Korsu (wartime bivouac) cabinets were originally built there, as were the sailors cabinet in 1954 and the Hunters' cabinet in 1955. The building was first renovated in the early 1960s and 1970s, when it was closed for almost a year. The most recent renovation took place in 2018.
