Katariinanlaakson Nature Reserve
Katariinanlaakson Nature Reserve (swe. Katrinedals naturskyddsområde) is a 17-hectare nature reserve in the Katariina district (swe. Katrinedal) in Turku, approximately 6 km from the city center. The area borders the important Rauvolaviken for birds and consists of groves, pine-covered mountains, primeval spruce forest and lush beach meadows. The nature conservation area was established in 1983 with the support of the Nature Conservation Act.
The area is probably named after the wife on Ispoi's farm in the 18th century, Katarina Berg, but also Catherine Jagiellon made excursions here and many assume that she is the origin of the name.
