Pääskyvuori link tower[edit]

Pääskyvuori link tower is a telecommunication tower that serves mobile phone connections in Pääskyvuori, Turku. The tower, which is located at the top of the cliff next to the former Pääskyvuori barracks area, is 134.6 meters high above the ground and 191 meters above sea level. In some sources, the height of the tower is reported to be 102 meters above the ground, 122 meters with the mast.

The tower is the most famous landmark in Pääskyvuori, which can be seen far into the Turku area. It is the second tallest television tower in Finland after the link tower in Pasila, Helsinki.

The Pääskyvuori Link Tower was built in 1964 by the Finnish state for Finland's postal and telegraph services as a television and telecommunications tower, through which domestic long-distance traffic and international telecommunications were transmitted. Almost all information and television traffic from abroad passed through the tower. Pääskyvuori was chosen as the assembly site because it was high enough and owned by the state.

The "hot line" between the White House in the United States and the Soviet Kremlin was traditionally in the 1960s opened through the Pääskyvuori link tower.
