A municipality is usually a single administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction as granted by national and regional laws to which it is subordinate. It is to be distinguished (usually) from the county, which may encompass rural territory or numerous small communities such as towns, villages and hamlets. [1]

A municipality is in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany the smallest geographical unit in the game Turf. Every Turf zone in these countries belongs to a region but also a municipality belonging to that region. The table below lists the countries that are divided into municipalities.

Articles about municipalities are named in TurfWiki by using the prefix "Municipality:" before the name, e.g. Municipality:Mariehamn.

Country Number of municipalities
Denmark 98
Finland 312
Germany 130
Iceland 35
Netherlands 189
Norway 427
Sweden 290
United Kingdom 281

Please note that only municipalities with at least one zone are counted in this context! It may also happen that municipalities that no longer exist in reality due to changes in the administrative division still exist as their own municipalities in Turf!
