Lancashire is a ceremonial county that in turf is a municipality in the region of North West England in the United Kingdom. The municipality (county) has just under 1.5 million inhabitants and is located in the central part of the region.

The house of Lancaster's red rose, which has given name to the war of the roses together with the house of York's white rose, is Lancashire's county flower.

The county borders Irish Sea to the west, Cumbria to the north, North Yorkshire in the east and the three metropolitan areas West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside in the south.
