Linköping is a municipality in the region of Östergötland in Sweden. The municipality has approximately 163,100 inhabitants and is located in the province Östergötland.

Location

The municipality is centrally located in the province Östergötland and borders in the southwest to Boxholm municipality, in the west to Mjölby municipality and Motala municipality, in the north to Finspång municipality, in the east to Norrköping municipality, Söderköping municipality and Åtvidaberg municipality and in the south to Kinda municipality, all in Östergötlands län.

The urban area Linköping is the municipality's central town. Other urban areas in the municipality are Askeby, Bankekind, Berg, Bestorp, Brokind, Ekängen, Gistad, Kränge, Linghem, Ljungsbro, Malmslätt, Nykil, Rappestad, Sjögestad, Skeda Udde, Slaka, Sturefors, Tallboda, Ulrika, Vikingstad och Västerlösa.
