Oslo is a municipality in the region of Østlandet (Eastern Norway) in Norway. With just over 700,000 inhabitants, the municipality is Norway's most populous municipality and constitutes its own county (fylke).

Oslo is the capital of Norway.

Location

The municipality is located in the interior of the Oslofjord and borders the municipalities of Bærum and Municipality: Ringerike Ringerike in the west, Lunner in the north, Nittedal, Lillestrøm (which is a merger of the municipalities Fat, Sørum and Skedsmo), Lørenskog and Enebakk in the east, and Nordre Follo (which is a merger of the municipalities Oppegård and Ski) and Nesodden in the south. The municipality constitutes its own county (fylke), while the neighboring municipalities are part of Viken county.

Urban areas

The southern third of the municipality constitutes the central parts of the Norwegian capital Oslo (which in the form of urban area Oslo also extends into ten municipalities in Viken county). Two thirds of the municipality is part of the large forest area called Marka. In addition to Oslo, there is the small town Movatn with just over 300 inhabitants.
