Salla is a Municipality in the region of Lappi (Lapland) in Finland. The municipality has about 3 400 inhabitants.

Known for the Battle of Salla (1939) during the Winter War where a Soviet offensive was stopped.

Oulanka nationalpark and Värriö nature park is partly located the Salla municipality.

Location[edit]

Salla is located in the northeastern part of Finland.

Bordering municipalities are Kemijärvi and Pelkosenniemi to the west, Kuusamo to the south, Posio to the southwest, Savukoski to the north and Russia to the east.

Urban areas[edit]

The adminstrative center and only urban area is Salla church village with 1 700 inhabitants.

Zones[edit]

There are two turfzones in Salla, where one is counted as a holy zone.

The most taken zone is SallanKirkko that is located by the Salla church.
