Sodankylä (Inari Sami Suáđigil, Northern Sami Soađegilli) is a municipality in the region of Lappi (Lapland) in Finland. The municipality has about 8 300 inhabitants and is located in the historical province of Lapland.

Sodankylä is the second largest municipality in Finland in terms of area, immediately after the neighboring municipality Inari.

Part of the Urho Kekkonen's National Park, founded in 1983, is located in the northern part of Sodankylä municipality.

Location[edit]

Bordering municipalities are Inari in the north, Kemijärvi in the south, Pelkosenniemi in the southeast, Rovaniemi in the southwest and Savukoski in the east.

Urban Areas[edit]

Urban areas are Sodankylä church village with 5 166 inhabitants and Sattanen with 200 inhabitants (in December 2017).
