Stockholm, Stockholm Municipality or the City of Stockholm (Swedish: Stockholms kommun or Stockholms stad) is a municipality in the region of Stockholm in Sweden. The municipality has about 977,300 inhabitants and is located in the provinces of Uppland and Södermanland.

Central town is Stockholm, which is also Sweden's capital and largest urban area.

Placement

The municipality is located in the southern parts of the province Uppland and the northern parts of Södermanland. To the east is Baltic Sea with the Stockholm Archipelago and in the west Mälaren. Adjacent municipalities are, in the southeast Tyresö, in the south Huddinge and Botkyrka, in the west Ekerö, in the north Järfälla, Sollentuna and Danderyd, in the northeast and northwest Sundbybergs and Solna, in the east Lidingö and Nacka, all in Stockholm County.
