Sundsvall is a municipality in the region of Västernorrland in Sweden. The municipality has about 99,500 inhabitants and the municipality is mainly located in the central parts of the province Medelpad, with a small part in Hälsingland (part of Attmar parish).

Location
The municipality is located in the southeast part of the Västernorrland County. The municipality has the Bothnian Sea in the east and borders the municipalities of Nordanstig in Gävleborg County in the south, Ånge in Västernorrland County and Bräcke and Ragunda in Jämtland County in the west, Sollefteå and Timrå in the north, both in Västernorrland County.

The urban area Sundsvall is the largest with approximately 58,800 inhabitants and constitutes the municipality's central town.
