Ylitornio (swedish: Övertorneå) is a municipality in the region of Lappi (Lapland) in Finland. The municipality has about 3 900 inhabitants and is located in its entirety in the historical landscape Lapland.

Location[edit]

Ylitornio borders to the municipality of Pello in the north, Rovaniemi in the east, Tervola in the southeast, Tornio in the south and in (Sweden) Övertorneå in the west.

Urban areas[edit]

The only urban area and adminstrative center is the Ylitornio church village (formely named Alkkula). The village had 1 984 inhabitants in December 2015.

Zones[edit]

There are four turfzones in Ylitornio, where one is counted as a holy zone.

The most taken zone is CustomsRoad that is placed near the border crossing at the Tornio river in the village of Aavasaksa on the road "Tullitie" (Custom´s road).
