Daegu (Korean: [tɛɡu], 대구, 大邱, literally 'large hill', 대구광역시), formerly spelled Taegu, is one of 15 regions in South Korea. It is a city in southeastern South Korea with about 2.5 million inhabitants, making it the country's fourth largest city. Daegu is one of South Korea's major cities (gwangyeoksi), and is an independent entity at about the same administrative level as the country's provinces.

The region is almost completely surrounded by the region of Gyeongsangbuk except for a small part at the bottom southwest where it borders Gyeongsangnam.
