Gwangju is one of 15 regions in South Korea. It is a city in the southwestern part of the country. It is the administrative capital of the surrounding province Jeollanam (South Jeolla), but the city is considered as a separate administrative unit as a metropolitan area. Gwangju is South Korea's sixth largest city.
