Stats and congratulations[edit]

The first round of this year has come to an end and it's been a not so surprisingly relaxed one considering it's in the middle of the winter albeit we have one or two newcomers in the top three. One could from the first few weeks already see who the winner was going to be, namely TXL, a turfer who has several region victories but this is the first top three medal. The battle for the second and third place was on the other hand a very interesting one. At third place Florenskan was struggling the entire month but during the second half of the round something happened. Steadily, Florenskan managed to decrease the gap and eventually pass mulino75. The final score ended up to be this. Florenskan told me that she "thought it was impossible to get a medal with a full-time job", but with determination you can go a long way.

A loss[edit]

During this round we've also had a tragic loss in the Turf community. The turfer Mörkret, formerly and more well known as LaserLudde is no longer with us. He died on the 12th of January. His Turf accomplishments include a bronze medal and also silver medals in BorlängeOpen and BonanzaOpen 2014. Some seem to die just way too early. Remember that life is precious and as far as we know, we only have one go at it.

In Västerås, turfers have collected money to commemorate him with a flowers at his funeral. Turf will not longer commemorate users with zones, and the existing WillyOne has been renamed to BagelZone. Rest in piece WillyOne and Mörkret.

Winter event[edit]

On February 21st you have the opportunity to participate in the Västerås event called Turf on Ice 2015. As the name suggests, this event will take place on a frozen lake and ice-picks are mandatory! Also, no motor vehicles are allowed during the competition due to safety reasons. If you are interested in participating, send an e-mail to keasp72@gmail.com with your turf nick and your phone number of the phone you will be using during the event. Strong lights[edit]

Turf 24 wrote in an article that the Gothenburg police will be on the lookout for people using extra strong lights on the bicycle which may be blinding to oncoming traffic. At the same time, they state that it's mandatory to have a light that can be seen from up to 300m. Impossible some might say, on the contrary says maqqan in a comment. He refers to this particular article showing different lights and the light they cast. I've skimmed through the article and it brings up some good stuff about lights if you're thinking of upgrading the lights on your bike.

See you in the zone!
