Swedish expressions

Swedish expressions, (translated) into English where possible.

A

  • Armhåleturfa - (Armpit turfing) - To block the GPS signal, for example by stopping your mobile in the armpit, to prevent the player symbol in the app from moving. The purpose is usually to get the player symbol to remain in a zone in order to be able to takeover the zone even though you have already left it, usually when traveling by public transport. 'Note' that this method is in the gray zone, as the turf unit is not physically in the zone the entire takeover time! However, it is a noble art to succeed in blocking the GPS signal at exactly the right moment, as the player symbol continues to move for a short time even after the blocking has been performed.

B

  • Barnvagnsturfa - (Stroller turfing) - To go with a pram and turf.
  • Bilturfa - Car turfing - When a car is used as a means of transportation when playing Turf. This is ineffective in dense city areas but can save one a lot of time when zones a far between each other. Some turfers consider carturfing to be somewhat cheating.
  • Bilzon - Car zone - Zone that is located so that it is very easy to take from the car without stepping out.
  • Blocka - Block (verb) - A player blocks another player when taking a zone before an other player intends to take the same zone. This means that the second player cannot take the intended zone due to block time being applied after the take.

  • Cykelturfa - Bike turfing - When a bicycle is used as a means of transportation during a Turf game session. Bicycles are considered one of the most effective and versatile option for a Turf player. What a bicycle lacks in speed compared to a car, it excels in flexibility and mobility.

  • Dröm-vessla - (Dream weasel) - To perform an Eager Weasel in a time of 10 minutes. The term became less relevant on May 21, 2016 when the medal Eager Ferret was introduced. Since the ferret could not be taken retroactively, the concept of dream weasel still lives on to some extent.

  • Fetblockad - Surrounded by many blocks in several different directions.
  • Fulblocka - To ghost turf and turn on GPS in a zone and take it just before another non-ghosting opponent who also intended to take the zone.
  • Förskingringszon - A zone whose location is solely due to distance from population centers and the turfers radius of action, and not difficult obstacles in the terrain, has a taking frequency, and / or diversification among turfers visiting the zone, which falls below the fairy system limit values to maintain a minimum pph 4.

  • Natturfa - (Night turfing) - When a player is turfing at night.
  • Navelpillare - (Navel peeling) - Person who does not take new zones but gets a lot of PPH from already taken zones.

  • Onda ögat (även enbart ögat) - Evil eye (also only the "eye") - To follow another turfer in the app by turning on the so-called 'Spectator mode'. The term comes from the fact that it appears in the other turfers app as an eye above the turfer symbol in the app.

  • Pendelturfa - Commute turf - Turfing on the way to and from work.

  • Slöturfa - (Lazy turf) - To take the opportunity to take zones because you have the roads past.
  • Spenatzon - (Spinach Zone) - A zone that is remote in an undeveloped or sparsely populated area but still not in the middle of the forest, there is some proximity to urban areas.   • Turffordon - (Turf vehicle) - The vehicle a person uses when turfing.
  • Turftoling - Name with the meaning Turf madcap. A positive term for turfer how does something crazy, over-engaged or the like. The origin is a misspelling of Turftoking which became Turftoling. Based on this, a zone was also named Turftoling (https://turfgame.com/map/Turftoling) which was placed so that only "crazy" turfers take over it.
  • Turfträff - (Turf meeting) - A gathering with people as a turfing.
  • Turfturist - (Turf tourist) Person as a tourist turfing.

U

  • Unika (verb) - (Unique (verb)) - To take new unique zones. Common in tourist turf. Example: I'm out and "unikar".
  • Unika - Unique - Zones you have not taken before. Example: I took some unique ones.
  • Uniking - A unique turfer. One that you have not taken any zone from before. Used by those who "hunt" to take zones of as many turfers as possible. This can be viewed via Warded.

  • Vessla - (Weasel) - To take / have taken the medal Eager Weasel which requires you to take 10 zones within 15 minutes.

  • Turf-TV - To sit at home with the Turf app turned on in order to only follow other turfers' progress and zone takeover.
  • Turf widow/Turf widower - Person who is left alone at home when he or she is out turfing.
  • Turfing - The act of playing Turf.

Parts of the game

A

  • Assist - When a player is in a zone during the moment the zone is taken over by another player, and thus the takeover points (TP) that the zone is worth are awarded. An assistant player is only awarded the takeover score (TP) for the zone, and not the hourly score (PPH).

B

  • Block time - The time duration of which a zone is not available to take for other players. This is applied immediately after a takeover. Block time depends, among other things, on the player's rank. It is a maximum of 25 minutes and at least 5 minutes.
  • Bonanza - A major event in Turf that serves as a standalone round in which the contesters capture zones unique to the event in a much denser fashion than a regular round of Turf. There is often a heat for walking and a heat for cycling. The bonanza is arranged annually by various Turf Associations and can be equated with the WC in Turf.

  • Event - An event is a form of competition in Turf that takes place in a special event area for a limited time. All events have their own toplist and their own zones that replace all common zones within the event area.

  • PPH - Points Per Hour. The amount of points a player will get each hour for owning a zone.
  • Pro mode - Setting that does not load the map in the background of the application. Used to save battery and data traffic when you already know where the zones are located. Pro mode for Android disappeared with the public Version 1.0.0 and was replaced by map cache. Pro mode has never existed for iOS.

  • Rough zones - Zone in rugged terrain that cannot be taken without extra effort, depending on topographically or terrain-difficult obstacles.
  • Round - A time period between 4 or 5 weeks makes up a Turf round. At each new round a winner is found, all zones are made neutral and all round points are reset. A round always starts and ends on the first Sunday of each month.

S

  • Session - At least five zones, taken at most one hour apart, each registered on the statistics page Warded. Contains, among other things, start time, distance, average speed and number of zones. The distance, and also the average speed, is calculated according to the bird's eye view between the zones taken.
  • Supporter - You become a supporter for a month, three months or a year by paying a fee. As a supporter, you give turf important support, but get no game benefits. However, it is easier to see certain statistics and find out things before non-paying.

  • TP - Takeover Points. Points per take.
  • Turf insider - Is the newsletter at the bottom of the monthly email that comes out after each round start.
  • Turf zone - The physical area in which a player has to stand in order to receive points.
  • TvT (Turfer versus Turfer) - Statistics, showing which turfers you as a logged in user have taken zones off, or lost zones to. Is registered on the statistics page warded. Contains, among other things, information about when you first took a zone of a certain turfer, when you first lost a zone to a certain turfer, and plus / minus statistics.

  • Warded - Statistics page with statistics both about the game as a whole and for individual users. To see your own statistics at warded, login is required.

Z

  • Zonemaker - Volunteer creating new zones in Turf and maintaining existing zones.
