Assistant Surgeon James ThomsonEdit
The obelisk is placed in memory of Assistant Surgeon James Thomson who served during the Crimean War. When the British Army left the Crimea in 1854 he volunteered to remain behind with a group of 700 wounded Russians and restored around 400 to health before dying himself.
