Kalmar is a municipality in the region of Kalmar in Sweden. The municipality has approximately 72,100 inhabitants and is located in its entirety in the province of Småland.

Location[edit]

The municipality is located in the southeastern parts of the province Småland. To the east are Kalmar Strait and the Baltic Sea.

The municipality borders the municipalities Torsås in the south, Emmaboda and Nybro in the west, Mönsterås in the north and Borgholm and Mörbylånga on Öland in the east.

Urban areas[edit]

The urban area Kalmar is the largest with its approximately 41,900 inhabitants and constitutes the municipality's central town.

Other urban areas in the municipality are Drag, Dunö, Hagby, Halltorp, Lindsdal, Ljungbyholm, Läckeby, Påryd, Rinkabyholm, Rockneby, Smedby, Trekanten, Tvärskog, Vassmolösa and Åmunnen.
