Bonn, officially the Bundesstadt Bonn, is a independent city (German: Kreisfreie Stadt) which in turf is counted as a municipality in the region of Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) in Germany. The municipality has about 331,000 inhabitants and is located in the southwest part of the region.

Location[edit]

Bonn is located on both sides of Rhine, approx. 40 kilometers south of Köln (Cologne).

Ten cities and municipalities (including Königswinter) border the municipality of Bonn, all of which - with the exception of Remagen, which is located in the municipality Ahrweiler in the region Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) - belongs to the municipality Rhein-Sieg-Kreis.
