Haninge is a municipality in the region of Stockholm in Sweden. The municipality has about 94,800 inhabitants and is located in the province Södermanland.


The municipality is located on the island of Södertörn in the northeastern part of the province Södermanland. To the east, the municipality borders the Baltic Sea with Stockholm's southern archipelago. Adjacent municipalities are Nynäshamn in the southwest, Botkyrka in the west, Huddinge in the northwest and Tyresö in the northeast, all in Stockholm County.

Urban areas[edit]

The urban development Handen is part of the urban area of Stockholm and constitutes the municipality's central city. The urban development in the northern part of the municipality, which includes Vendelsö, Brandbergen, Norrby, Vendelsömalm and Vega, is included in the urban area Stockholm.

In addition, there are the following urban areas in Haninge municipality: Dalarö, Jordbro, Muskö, Norra Muskö, Söderby, Väländan, Västerhaninge, Årsta havsbad and part of Östorp and Ådran.
