Haninge is a municipality in the region of Stockholm in Sweden. The municipality has about 113,900 inhabitants and is the second largest municipality in Stockholm County in the population and is located in the province of Södermanland.

One third of the municipality's area is protected as a nature reserve. The buildings in the municipality are located in several different centers with shops, services, commuter train stations and multi-family houses that are surrounded by extensive single-family and nature areas.

Location[edit]

The municipality is located on the island Södertörn in the northeastern part of the province Södermanland. It has Mälaren in the northwest. Adjacent municipalities are Haninge in the southeast, Botkyrka in the southwest, Ekerö in the northwest, Stockholm in the north and Tyresö in the east, all in Stockholm County.

Urban areas[edit]

The town of Huddinge is the municipality's central town. Large parts of the buildings in Huddinge municipality are included in Stockholm urban area (Huddinge centrum, Fullersta, Flemingsberg, Stuvsta, Snättringe, Segeltorp, Vårby, Trångsund, Skogås) and there are also Gladö kvarn, Vidja and Östorp and Ådran.
