Pelkosenniemi is a municipality in the region of Lappi (Lapland) in Finland. The municipality has about 940 inhabitants and is located in the historical province of Lapland.

Location[edit]

Pelkosenniemi is located by the Kemi river where it connects with the river Kitinen.

Bordering municipalities are Sodankylä in the north and west, Savukoski in the northeast, Salla in the east and Kemijärvi in the south.

Urban areas[edit]

The main town in the municipality is Pelkosenniemi church village, which is also the municipality's only urban area with 356 inhabitants.
