Städteregion Aachen (Aachen) is a district and in Turf a municipality in the region of Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) in Germany. The municipality has about 557,000 inhabitants and is located in the western part of the region.

Location[edit]

Nearby districts / municipalities are Kreis Heinsbergin the north, Kreis Düren in the east and Kreis Euskirchen in the southeast, all in the region Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and also the countries Belgium in the west, and the Netherlands in the northwest.

Urban areas[edit]

The largest city in the district is the district capital Aachen with about 250,000 inhabitants.

Other major cities are: Alsdorf, Baesweiler, Eschweiler, Herzogenrath, Monschau, Stolberg and Würselen.
