Gangwon is one of 15 regions in South Korea. It is a province in the northeastern part of the country and has about 1.5 million inhabitants.

Chuncheon is the capital with about 270 000 inhabitants.

The province borders the region of Gyeonggi to the west, Chungcheongbuk and Gyeongsangbuk to the south. To the east there is Sea of Japan. To the north is the North Korean Kangwon Province.
