Uppsala is one of 21 regions in Sweden. The region corresponds to the county with the same name. It includes the western and northern parts of the province of Uppland and a smaller part of the landscape Gästrikland.
Adjacent regions are Stockholm in the southeast, Södermanland (through Lake Mälaren) in the south, Västmanland in the west and Dalarna and Gävleborg in the northwest. In addition to this, the region also borders the region Åland in Finland through a short land border on the small island of Märket.
