Trondheim is a municipality in the region of Trøndelag in Norway. The municipality has about 207,600 inhabitants and is located in Trøndelag county.

Nickname: Stiftstaden (English: "The Diocese City")

Location[edit]

Trondheim lies on the south shore of Trondheim Fjord at the mouth of the River Nidelva.

Urban areas[edit]

The urban area Trondheim is the largest with about 180,600 and is the municipality's capital.

Other urban areas in the municipality are Bratsberg, Langørjan, Malvik, Nypan, Ringvål, Spongdal and Trolla. Since 2020, the former municipality of Klæbu and the urban areas of Klæbu and Tanem have also been included in the municipality.
