Union Monument[edit]
The Union Monument is a larger work of art by the Halland artist Roj Friberg. It shows Queen Margareta and two other representatives of the then united Nordic countries Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They are surrounded by another twelve persons. The work manifests the 600th anniversary of the Kalmar Union in 1397. The three central figures are cast in bronze and the others in cast iron. The union monument is located on Stationsvallen between Central Train Station and the "Frimurarhuset" building. The monument was donated by the New Dryaden Society to Kalmar municipality on the 14th of June 1997 and was unveiled by the five Nordic heads of state. The union monument was the result of a Nordic sculpture competition.
