NoDroneZone is a turfzone in the municipality of Helsinki in the region of Etelä-Suomi (Southern Finland) in Finland. The zone is located in the province of Uusimaa.
Placement[edit]
This zone is placed by the grave monument "Mother Earth Protecting Her Sons" in the Gert Skytte park in the district of Munkkiniemi, in western Helsinki.
Mother Earth Protecting Her Sons[edit]
"Mother Earth Protecting Her Sons" belongs to Wäinö Aaltonen's (1894-1966) late production, the sculpture was signed in 1959. Aaltonen has freed himself from the heavy monumentalism and the sculpture has an expressive basic mood. The son's classicism has been given an opposite pair in the Cubistically outlined female figure. Mother Earth protects her son at the Munkkiniemi´s heroes grave, the surroundings are planned by architect and professor Aulis Blomstedt.
The bronze sculpture, which is 2.40 meters high, stands on a gray granite plinth. On the pedestal is the text "Pro Patria". The work belongs to the Helsinki Art Museum's collection.
