The jetty's name "Kokplattan" is a winning entry in a name competition where Västerås residents have been able to submit their creative proposals via Västerås Facebook page.
The motivation for the winning entry reads: “For ambiguity and humor, which connects the hot water from history's steam power plant with today's associations to the place. A name with an easy-going and popular tone that we hope will make everyone feel welcome. Past and present, city and water, Västerås residents and visitors - everything boils together into a tasty dish - right here on the city's new pier.”[1]
