'''The Union Monument''' is a larger work of art by the Halland artist Roj Friberg. It shows [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_I_of_Denmark Queen Margareta] and two other representatives of the then united Nordic countries [[Country:Denmark|Denmark]], [[Country:Norway|Norway]] and [[Country:Sweden|Sweden]]. They are surrounded by another twelve persons. The work manifests the 600th 600<sup>th</sup> anniversary of the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalmar_Union Kalmar Union] in 1397. The three central figures are cast in bronze and the others in cast iron. The union monument is located on Stationsvallen between Central Train Station and the "Frimurarhuset" building. The monument was donated by the New Dryaden Society to [[Municipality:Kalmar|Kalmar]] municipality on the 14th 14<sup>th</sup> of June 1997 and was unveiled by the five Nordic heads of state. The union monument was the result of a Nordic sculpture competition.
