Seoul (korean: 서울), is one of 15 regions in South Korea. Seoul is the capital and largest city of South Korea, it is also one of the world's most populous cities with almost 10.5 million inhabitants in the city and 25 million inhabitants in the entire metropolitan region. It includes the cities of Seoul and its port city Incheon as well as surrounding satellite cities in Gyeonggi Province. About half of South Korea's population lives in the metropolitan area.

Seoul is located in the northwestern part of South Korea, in a depression by the Han River which divides the city into two parts. The city covers an area of 605 km² (233.67 sq mi) and is surrounded by mountains.

The region is almost completely surrounded by the region of Gyeonggi except for a small part at the top of the northwest where it borders Incheon.
