Inari Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inari_(village) Inari church village] in the [[Municipality:Inari|Inari]] municipality in [[Country:Finland|Finland]].
The first church for [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inari_S%C3%A1mi_people Inari Sami] was completed in 1646 in Pielpajärvi on the shores of the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Inari Lake Inari], which the Inari Sami used as a winter residence in the early 17th century. Pielpajärvi was then for a long time the adminstrative center of Inari. Pielpajärvi wilderness church was abandoned at the end of the 19th century in favor of a newly built church in the Inari church village, which was completed in 1888.
The church in Inari church village was destroyed by Soviet airstrikes in 1940 during the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War Winter War] and the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivalo Ivalo] prayer house was temporarily used as a church. A new church, designed by architect Inkeri Visanti, was inaugurated in 1952. A bell tower was built in connection with the church's renovation in 1982.
The church's altarpiece, which was painted by Väinö Saikon in 1937, has been saved from the destroyed former church.
