== Saint Catharina church ==
St. Catharina Church in Hammarland on Åland is a stone church from the late 13th century dedicated to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_of_Alexandria Saint Catherine of Alexandria].
The church is located next to the old road "postrotevägen" and a large burial ground, Kjusan, is located just west of the church. After the Reformation, the church was left to fend for itself. The church has been ravaged by fire several times, including around 1440 and most recently in February 2010.
The nave was built in the late 13th century and the tower, which has an unusual southern location, was added in the early 14th century. The tower served as both a coat of arms and a chapel with an altar dedicated to Saint Olof. During the beginning of the 15th century, the nave was extended with a new cow and in addition, the nave was hit by a fire during the construction period. The tower hood was renewed in the 17th century, but the medieval shape was retained. During the first half of the 19th century, existing windows were enlarged and new windows were broken in the north and west gables.
In the middle of the 15th century, the choir was painted with full-covering serpentine ornaments. In connection with an archaeological excavation in 1913, the medieval chalk paintings were produced again. West of the north window of the chancel is the church's only preserved figurative painting depicting the apostle Judas Thaddeus, with double crosses and associated language bands.
