Wales is one of twelve regions in the United Kingdom. The region includes the country with the same name and consists of the counties of Gwent, Mid Glamorgan, South Glamorgan, West Glamorgan, Dyfed, Powys, Gwynedd and Clwyd and has about three million inhabitants.

The largest city is Cardiff, other of the region's most populous towns are Swansea, Newport, Wrexham and Barry.

It is bordered by England to the east, the Irish Sea to the north and west, and the Bristol Channel to the south. Adjacent regions are North West England in the northeast, West Midlands in the east and South West England in the southeast.
