Müggelberge[edit]

The Müggelberge (also formerly called the Müggelsberge; English: Muggle Mountains) is a ridge on the eastern outskirts of the city of Berlin in Germany, located in the district of Köpenick. It is dominated by the two peaks Kleiner Müggelberg (88.3 meters above sea level), where the observation tower Müggelturm stands, and Grosser Müggelberg (114.7 m above sea level), which is Berlin's highest natural mountain and third highest elevation after the Arkenberge landfill and Teufelsberg.

Grosser Müggelberg (German spelling: Großer Müggelberg) was originally intended as the site of the Berlin TV Tower and was East Berlin's highest point. The TV tower was already being built in 1954 when construction was interrupted in 1955 in order not to place the tower directly on the approach to Berlin-Schönefeld Airport. Instead, the completed 31 meter high part of the tower came to be used as an eavesdropping facility by the Stasi. Since German reunification, the tower is used by Deutsche Telekom for targeted radio communications. There is also a 64 meter high radio mast on the mountain.
