Utrecht is one of twelve regions in the Netherlands. The region includes the province of the same name and has about 1.3 million inhabitants.
The largest city is the provincial capital Utrecht. Other major cities are Amersfoort, Veenendaal, Zeist and Nieuwegein.
Adjacent regions are Zuid-Holland (South Holland) in the west, Noord-Holland (North Holland) in the northwest, Flevoland in the northeast and Gelderland in the east.
