Drenthe is one of twelve regions in the Netherlands. The region includes the province of the same name and has about 490,000 inhabitants.
The largest city is the provincial capital of Assen. Other major cities are Emmen, Hoogeveen and Meppel.
Adjacent regions are Overijssel in the south, Friesland in the west, Groningen in the north and Niedersachsen (in Germany) in the east.
