The Netherlands (in Dutch Nederland) is a country in western Europe that has about 17 million inhabitants. Adjacent countries are Germany in the east and Belgium in the south.

The formal capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam while the city Den Haag is the country's government seat and administrative capital. Other major cities are Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven.
