Hessen (Hesse) is a region in the middle of Germany. The Region encompasses the bundesland with the same name and has about six million inhabitants.
Bordering regions are Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) in the southwest, Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) in the northwest, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) in the north, Thüringen (Thuringia) in the east, Bayern (Bavaria) in the southeast and Baden-Württemberg in the south.
