Thüringen is a region in the middle of Germany. The region encompasses the bundesland with the same name and has about two million inhabitants. Bordering regions are Niedersachsen in the northwest, Sachsen-Anhalt in the northeast, Sachsen in the east, Bayern in the south and Hessen in the west.
