Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) is a region in western Germany. The region encompasses the bundesland with the same name and has about four million inhabitants.
Bordering regions are Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) in the north, Hessen (Hesse) in the east, Baden-Württemberg in the southeast, Saarland in the southwest and France in the south, Luxembourg in the west and Belgium in the northwest.
