Kemi (Northern Sami Giepma) is a municipality in the region of Lappi (Lappland) in Finland. The municipality has about 20 707 inhabitants and is located in the historical county of Lappi.

The port of Kemi on the island of Ajos is one of the most important in Finland and is used by the paper industry. Stora Enso and Metsä-Botnia are two industries in Kemi.

In Kemi there is also the ice hotel Lumilinna. The city has an airport (Kemi-Tornio airport) and a railway connection.

During the Winter War the Swedish volunteer flotilla in Finland was based in Kemi.

Location

Kemi is located at the mouth of the Kemi River in the Gulf of Bothnia.

Bordering municipalities are Keminmaa in the north, Simo in the southeast, and Tornio in northwest.
