Sachsen (Saxony), officially the Free State of Saxony (German: Freistaat Sachsen), is a region in eastern Germany. The region encompasses the bundesland with same name and has about four million inhabitants.
Bordering regions are Bayern (Bavaria) in the southwest, Thüringen (Thuringia) in the west, Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt) in the northwest, Brandenburg in the north, Poland in the east and Czech Republic in the south.
