Nordrhein-Westfalen is a region in western Germany. The region encompasses the bundesland with the same name and has about 18 million inhabitants. The region is the mostly populated region in Germany and the one with the most turfzones.
Bordering regions are Niedersachsen in the northeast, Hessen in the southeast, Rheinland-Pfalz in the south as well as the country Belgium and (in the Netherlands) Limburg in the west and Gelderland and Overijssel in the northwest.
