Round Winners[edit]

Congrats to the winner of round 115: MrAce from Västmanland who took his first Gold medal ever, ZonerX from Stockholm landed his second Silver and NPJem from Skåne could celebrate his first Bronze.
Well done mates!

Turf Events[edit]

If you want your public event featured in Turf insider, write to: insider@turfgame.com preferably at least two months in advance and add a web page if possible. After the event it is always fun to read a paragraph about it (winners, weather, funny episodes) and remember that a picture is always worth more than a 1000 words.

Vb Winter Classic 2020[edit]

Just a reminder to sign up for the Winter Classic event taking place in Umeå on the leap day this year. It is a classical event organized by Turf Västerbotten.

More information regarding registration etc will be posted on Turf Västerbotten web page: turfvasterbotten.wordpress.com

Turf Awards 2019[edit]

Turf Award is awarded to turfers who have made significant or particularly attentive achievements during the previous year or have been involved in an especially noted or spectacular zone takeover. The nomination period has now ended and in March the nominations in each category will be revealed and every turfer can vote for their favorite. The winner in each category will be announced by Turf Crew at the Bonanza banquet in Örebro on May 16, 2020.

Turf Clubs[edit]

In the last few years Turf Clubs have been started. Optimus from uTurf (Turf Västmanland) wants to remind every old, new and future member of uTurf of the annual member meeting on the 11th of March at 6.30 pm. More info at www.uturf.se. You don't have to live and turf in Västmanland to become a member of uTurf.
I would like to hear from the Turf Clubs out there. How long have you been around? Regular meetings/events your club arranges.

FTT = First To Take[edit]

What is more rewarding than being the first turfer to take a brand new zone or an old one in some far away corner of the Turf map? This is called FTT: First To Take. If you have registered at turf.lundkvist.com, you can see all your FTTs from 1/1 2017 (that is as far back as lundkvist statistics go), and sometimes a few taken before this date. Most FTTs to date, according to Lundkvist, has MrJokerit, no doubt due to his escapade in Japan a few years ago. At lundkvist you can also check if there's any potential FTTs around when you are out and about. When looking at a region's all zones, you can sort them accordingly to how many times they've been taken. For example there's 13 zones in Jämtland waiting for a turfer to take FTT :) While there are none in Stockholm...

I still remember my first FTT, back during my first year as a turfer. It was my own zone suggestion (SvängAv) and popped up on my way home from a weekly Lindy hop dance event. My second FTT was another zone suggestion of mine: DanskaStenen. Most of my FTTs I've collected while travelling outside of Sweden, there is less competition for zones then. At lundkvist, FTTs you take while assisting is listed. It is fun to get together and take a FTT together, I have experienced this twice in Uppsala. Both times it was Kygni that got the local turfers together for a FTT on his winner zones.

Sometimes zone makers enjoy 'dumping' a new zone on top of an active turfer. This happened to pandora when she stopped in the Lunsen forest back in 2014 to photograph some forest motives. When she started to walk again, she heard 'taking zone' and was awarded with a FTT on the brand new zone Lunsenstigen. Once when I wanted to be nice to a Helsinki turfer and put a new zone on the bike path he was going on, he simply just biked thru it and didn't stop until the next zone! I was somewhat confused over his behavior, but it was explained to me when I visited Helsinki and met up with the local turfers. They told me the turfer was biking with the phone in his pocket, and didn't realize a new zone has been put in his way...he had heard 'taking zone', but disregarded it as an 'echo'. So much for my gift of a new zone!

My zone maker colleague Wsnurr once had to explain for a couple of hitchhikers why he turned off the main road on to a small gravel road in order to be the first, and only, turfer to take the Slovakian zone Vlkolínec. Another time he took a cab for 30 min into nowhere in Bulgaria to walk over a rusty bridge over Donau to end up in a zone full of heavy underbrush. The things some turfers do for a FTT ;)

My own last FTT happened last weekend in Uppsala. Me and TriggerHappy were on our way home after visiting some friends on Saturday evening. We had taken the zone at Järlåsa church and were half-way to Vänge, when a friendly fellow turfer told us to turn around since a brand new zone had popped up in Järlåsa. It was the zone Pucko close to the factory where the Pucko chocolate drink used to be produced, history of Pucko (in Swedish only). We hurried back and in the dark we got the year's first FTT. The following morning Hylaeus took this photo of the zone, our photo was all darkness.

The picture is missing, feel free to upload it if you have it
